About Us
Nowadays, few people encounter a poem outside of a greeting card.
But that wasn't the case 250 years ago, when Byron, Keats, Shelley, and others were regularly featured in London newspapers. Even just 200 years ago, during the birth of the American penny press, poetry found its way into the hands of the general public on those sheets. And only 100 years ago, Carl Sandburg's work could be found in Chicago papers.
The goal of PoemTee.com is to restore public interest in poems by starting a poetry T-shirt revolution! Granted, a T-shirt can effectively display only a few lines, but that's part of the charm. Before even the most skeptical of viewers realize it, they've read a poem!
The driving force behind PoemTee.com is
Lester Smith, current president of the
Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets and professional writer of poetry instruction for children of grades 3-12. He thanks you for your interest and welcomes your comments.
